      <image:title>Blog - “A data-led approach to delivering 1.5 million homes”: Stack x LandTech</image:title>
<image:caption>We have published a major study in collaboration with LandTech, which we will be presenting at UKREiiF: “A data-led approach to delivering 1.5m homes” The paper looks at the current methods employed within the planning system to identify and allocate land for development. It suggests that improvements could be made to this process by more closely considering existing spatial and public opinion data. Our contribution to the debate is drawn from a megapoll of more than 14,000 British adults conducted in February and March 2025. We wanted to explore what drives attitudes to housebuilding, and to provide actionable insight for those in the built environment trying to fully understand local opinion around potential sites for development. The headline finding is quite simple: the sites, and potentially supportive local majorities, exist to meet this ambitious goal. How we get there is the subject of the white paper, and we’ve expanded on those findings in a series of blog posts here. There’s good news and there’s bad news… Explore the series: The good news: all the data points to a big opportunity The bad news: the window of opportunity may be closing How to persuade opponents of local housebuilding Exploring the ‘relocation premium’ All of Stack’s data relating to development, planning and the built environment is now accessible via strata: check it out for free!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Stack’s analysis between now and November will largely focus on the handful of states where a few tens of thousands of votes are likely to decide who wins the White House. We will be polling and modelling the key states between now and election day, so get in touch if you want detailed analysis. Looking at the same data at a state level suggests that the verdict might pose Trump an outsized problem in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Winning public support for development - There are a host of fascinating relationships in the data</image:title>
<image:caption>In general we see strong relationships between support for development and house prices (lower house prices correspond with higher support for new development, and vice versa). There’s another interesting dynamic given policy debates in this parliament: holiday homes. As Figure 2 shows, a higher density of holiday homes - specifically in rural areas - corresponds with greater agreement that housing is one of the most important issues facing the country (a slightly different question we also ask), which partly explains Cornwall’s relatively high place in the national “league table”.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We asked people’s support for “new private family housing”, “a new block of flats”, “a new social housing estate”, “a new shopping and entertainment complex” and a few others. Support and opposition for each varies, please get in touch for more detailed analysis! This chart (left) shows the overall RAG, the “private family housing RAG”, and the change between the two, and highlights the potential that support exists for “private family housing” even in the least supportive places: the increase for that type of housing from the overall RAG is most pronounced in the least supportive 15 Local Authorities.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Figure 1: Coefficient plot of the effect of being a centre-right voter on warmth towards foreign investment Warmth towards foreign investment was measured on a 100-point scale. The reference voter/baseline is a centre-left party voter. A coefficient of -10 indicates that a centre-right voter, on average, has a warmth score (towards foreign investment) that is 10 points lower than a comparable centre-left voter. Models control for age, gender, education, and region. Whiskers show 95% confidence intervals.</image:caption>
